RULES

Safety

1.    Riders and pit crew members under the age of 16 must have a Parent/Guardian signature on the form

2.    Bumping will not be tolerated.

3.    The responsibility for a safe pass rests with the overtaking driver.

4.    If a driver leaves the track area, he/she must re-enter the track at the closest point as possible when it is safe to do so.

5.    If a lawnmower stalls on the track, the driver’s first responsibility is to move the mower to a safe position. Pit crew may not go onto the track unless specifically directed to do so by the safety crew.

6.    Mowers must be completely stopped before driver dismounts.

7.    Unsafe on/off track driving practices may result in disqualification.

8.    Mower pit speed should not exceed 5 mph for everyone’s safety.

9.    Refueling: Driver must dismount and engine turned off while fueling.

10.  Drivers and pit crew must follow all directions from safety crew at all times.

11.  Every driver must wear a CSA approved full-faced helmet that properly fits while operating a mower. 

12.  Goggles or face shield are required. Glasses are not sufficient. 

13.  It is recommended that every driver should wear appropriate clothing, including steel-toed boots.

14.  Every lawnmower must be equipped with a safety kill switch. Ex) seat switch, detachable tether cord, etc.

15.  Drivers and pit crew can not be under the influence of drugs and alcohol or they will be disqualified.

Racing Format

** Note: The following format is based off 20 racers and 5 racers per heat. It will be adjusted accordingly, depending on how many racers enter event.

1.    Each driver is allowed practice laps on race day up until 5:00 pm. 

2.    The following flag signals will be obeyed without question:
GREEN: The race/practice is underway when the green flag is waved.
YELLOW: Take care, caution flag. This means danger on track. No passing on entire track and drivers must form a single line following the heat leader.
WHITE: One lap to go.
CHECKERED: End of race or practice. Drivers must pull into pit area.

3.    Preliminary Heat Format: 5 racers per heat. Each heat will consist of 10 laps. Each heat lineup will be determined by the draw of a hat. Each racer will participate in 3 heats/races to determine their point placement as listed below. The top 9 racers will automatically qualify for the Final Championship Race and the bottom 11 will have one last chance in the Redemption Race.

4.    Points will be awarded to racers in each heat. After all preliminary heat brackets, the top 3 point achievers will receive a prize, with the top racer getting first choice. If there is a tie, top choice will be determined by the best of three “Rock, Paper, Scissors”.

a.    1st place = 5 points

b.    2nd place = 4 points

c.     3rd place = 3 points

d.    4th place = 2 points

e.    5th place = 1 point

5.    Redemption Race Format: The bottom 11 racers race for a spot in the Final Championship Race. This consists of 11 racers for 10 laps. Winner of this race qualifies for the Final Championship Race.

6.    Final Championship Race: This race will consist of the top 9 point achievers from the Preliminary Heats plus the winner of the Redemption Race. The racers will line up in reverse order based off their heat points. The redemption winner will get the last line up position. This race will consist of 10 racers racing 16 laps. The winner of this race wins the Boomtown Cup!

7.    Powder Puff Race: This race will consist of 5 laps. Lineup will be determined by draw of a hat.

Mower Requirements/Set up

1.    Factory style lawnmower engines rated at 24 HP and lower only. 

2.    Any arrangement of pulleys one may want. 

3.    No tires larger than 22 inches in diameter.

4.    All lawnmowers must still resemble a lawn tractor. No zero turn mowers allowed.

5.    Cutting blades and decks must be removed completely from mowers before race.

6.    Kill switches are required on all mowers.

7.    Hoods are required on all mowers and must be securely fastened. 

8.    Mowers must be free of all projections, which could injure the driver or competitor or damage another mower. No axle or wheel bolts may protrude beyond the face of the tire sidewall.

9.    Brakes may be improved in anyway desired.

10.  Throttle and brake controls may be relocated. 

11.  Steering wheels and handlebars may be replaced.

12.  No centrifugal and/or torque converter clutches.

13. All mowers must have a visible number displayed.
